With the new League One campaign scheduled to kick-off in just under six weeks time, Rotherham United manager Paul Warne has already made some major inroads in the transfer market.

Having already secured the services of Shaun MacDonald and Carlton Morris, the 46-year-old added some much-needed firepower to his attack earlier today by signing Freddie Ladapo from Plymouth Argyle for a reported club-record fee of £500,000 (via BBC Sport).

Excellent for the Pilgrims last season, the Millers will hope that the forward can help them secure promotion to the Championship in 2020.

Far from a one-dimensional player, Ladapo has shown during his time at Home Park that he is able to operate in several different roles if required to do so.

Keeping this in mind, here are three ways that we think Warne could utilise the 26-year-old at Rotherham during the upcoming campaign...

As a lone striker

A powerhouse of a centre-forward, Ladapo bullied defenders into making mistakes during his time at Plymouth with the majority of his 19 goals in the third tier coming as a lone striker.

Extremely comfortable in this particular role, he could end up fitting in perfectly at Rotherham who rarely strayed away from playing one up-front last season.

In a partnership alongside Michael Smith

Whereas Michael Smith didn't exactly set the Championship alight for the Millers during the previous campaign, a drop down in level could see him thrive.

However, with Warne splashing the cash on Ladapo, there are no guarantees that the target-man will start if his side stick with the status quo next season.

Yet if Rotherham decide to switch to a two striker formation, Smith could feature alongside the former Southend United striker which may result in some incredible displays of attacking football at the New York Stadium.

As part of a front-three

Although Warne will be without the trio of Jon Taylor, Joe Newell and Ryan Williams who all left the club after turning down new deals with the Millers, he may still want to play two wide players alongside Ladapo.

In order to do this, he will almost definitely have to dive back into the transfer market as Rotherham do not have many individuals at their disposal who can occupy these roles.

Having played in a front-three at Plymouth, Ladapo should have no troubles with adapting to this particular formation if does indeed become Warne's preference in League One.
