Cardiff City will be targeting to extend their unbeaten run under Neil Harris to four matches when they welcome Barnsley to South Wales on Saturday afternoon.

Harris will be hoping his side can secure their third consecutive victory when they face the relegation-struggling Tykes, with Cardiff aiming to follow up their 1-0 successes over Stoke and Nottingham Forest with another victory.

The new Cardiff boss has performed an excellent job since his appointment at the club, with the Bluebirds securing seven points from a possible nine under his leadership, despite there being a number of injury problems within the squad at present.

There will surely be confidence that Cardiff can extend their unbeaten streak with another positive result against bottom-placed Barnsley, but the visitors enter the match after ending their 17-game winless run last weekend with a win over Hull.

However, here are three ways Cardiff can exploit Barnsley on Saturday...

They need another tight defensive performance to act as a foundation

Cardiff's defence has looked uncharacteristically shaky at times this season - with this being a key reason for the departure of former boss Neil Warnock - but things have looked much tighter in recent matches under Harris.

Aden Flint and Curtis Nelson have formed a solid defensive partnership over the recent run of matches, with this seeing the pair help Cardiff towards back-to-back clean sheets against Stoke and Forest.

The defensive showing at the City Ground will have been particularly pleasing for Harris, and he will be hoping this can again provide the foundation for success when Barnsley arrive in South Wales on Saturday.

Aim to exploit the high Barnsley will be riding after last weekend

Barnsley have struggled to adapt to life in the Championship since their promotion from League One last season, but their victory over Hull last weekend will have come as a big relief following 17 matches without success.

This means the Tykes will have seen their confidence boosted following this much-needed three points, and they could try to attack Cardiff from the off on Saturday as they aim to take this momentum forward.

However, the Tykes have only actually managed to score six goals on the road this season, so Cardiff must ensure they are always set up for a potential counter-attack when Barnsley move the ball forward, as this could always be a possibility.

Lee Tomlin must act as the focal point for Cardiff

Tomlin has played a key role during the impressive start to Harris' reign, with the midfielder coming off the bench to score the equaliser in the Cardiff boss' first game before delivering two exciting displays since, and he is again likely to be key on Saturday.

The 30-year-old is capable of providing a creative spark from midfield to make him the most dangerous player in this Cardiff side, and he definitely has the ability to run Barnsley ragged on Saturday with his invention and flair.

Harris will surely give Tomlin a starting place in the side on Saturday, and it is once again important that all Cardiff's attacks go through the Bristol City man if the Bluebirds want to be at their most effective on the break.
