3 Viktor Gyokeres replacements Coventry City should consider if Fulham or Middlesbrough secure deal for 23-year-old

Enjoying an excellent campaign at Coventry City, Viktor Gyokeres finished the Championship season with 17 goals and a further five assists in 45 outings.

The Sweden international, who spent the second half of the 2020/21 season on loan with the Sky Blues, permanently joined the Midlands outfit in the summer, penning down a three-year contract.

Middlesbrough and Fulham are both interested in a move for the 24-year-old, although a deal is not likely to come cheap.

Here, we take a look at three Gyokeres replacements the Sky Blues should consider if Fulham or Middlesbrough are successful in their pursuit of the young forward…

Ellis Simms

Enjoying excellent loan spells at Blackpool in League One, and Hearts in the Scottish Premiership over the last two seasons, the future of Everton striker Ellis Simms is rather unclear.

The highly-rated forward has been tipped by Everton favourite Kevin Campbell to be given a chance in the first-team at the Premier League club during pre-season, however, if it is a further loan spell that is required, or Frank Lampard regards him as surplus to requirements, then Coventry should be looking to pounce.

A physical frontman, with excellent link-up play and a knack for scoring goals, the 21-year-old could be a shrewd addition at Championship level.

Craig Bellamy is Coventry's record signing?

Carlton Morris

A strong Championship performer last season, Carlton Morris is deserving of a way back to the second tier.

A powerful and athletic forward, who has also proven to be a real technician, Morris ticks a lot of boxes when it comes to forward recruitment in the Championship.

Predominantly shining when deployed centrally, he has also proven to impress when operating on either wing.

Morris has shown that he can particularly thrive when operating around creativity, meaning he could seriously impress with Callum O’Hare in close proximity.

Josh Windass

Another player who is beyond the level at League One is Josh Windass, with the 28-year-old currently subject to Argentinian interest.

Atletico Talleres saw a £1 million bid rejected for the Owls forward but if Gyokeres is to depart, then they are likely to only need a fraction to be able to compete for his signature.

A dynamic and technically-gifted forward who is also excellent off the ball, Windass could be a strong option for the Sky Blues, whilst allowing Coventry to reinvest in other positions.
