Birmingham City have had another year of underperforming and managerial turmoil, but it looks to be steadying out now.

Steve Cotterill was a short-term solution but tailed off towards the end, and was sacked after a run of five defeats.

Garry Monk took the job and steered Birmingham clear of safety, and is building on that this season.

Although the Blues have been far from promotion standard, they look like a solid mid-table side at times, albeit inconsistent.

There have been many heroes that saved Birmingham from relegation, but with that comes many that go unnoticed, often those that put in the dirty work.

The likes of Jutkiewicz and Jota get all the plaudits at Birmingham due to their creative outlets, but Michael Morrison is becoming a solid figure in Monk’s side.

He now has over 150 appearances for the club, and is a consistent member that doesn’t get the recognition he perhaps deserves.

Jacques Maghoma is a key member of Monk’s team but he perhaps isn’t rated as one of the best for one reason or another.

Maghoma has played many games this season and chipped in with a number of goals and assists, proving he is a key man.

Maikel Kieftenbeld tends to be the player to do the dirty work for Birmingham off the ball, so maybe doesn’t get the attention he warrants.

The Dutch midfielder is a mainstay in Monk’s midfield and is an unsung hero.
