Charlton Athletic take on Huddersfield Town at the Valley tonight in search of a much needed three points after eight league games without a win, in a game that has added importance for both sides.

Lee Bowyer will have been frustrated with the manner in which his side lost their previous game against Middlesbrough, with just a single goal being enough to see of the Addicks at the Riverside.

Huddersfield themselves are also struggling towards the lower end of the table, with Danny Cowley's side having failed to pick up a victory in their last five league outings, thus seeing them into 18th place.

The tie is certainly a game that Bowyer will view as winnable tonight, with Huddersfield on a poor run of form and the Charlton boss being able to call upon the services of the influential Lyle Taylor once more, the omens look good for the home side.

Here, we take a look at THREE tweaks Bowyer must consider for  Charlton ahead of tonight's game against Huddersfield....

Deploy a midfield diamond

It would be wise for Charlton to deploy a midfield diamond against Huddersfield, as this would allow the Addicks to outnumber their opponents in the centre of the park, thus creating opportunities for overloads in the middle of the field.

These overloads will in theory allow Charlton's midfielders to have the time and space to play penetrating passes through to the likely frontline duo of Macauley Bonne and Jonathan Leko to get in behind the Terriers defence.

Look to exploit space out wide

Bowyer should look to instruct his frontmen to make runs into the channels as this will allow them to exploit the space left by Huddersfield's full backs who were found to be caught too high up the field during their game against Leeds United, with the likes of Ezgjan Alioski and Stuart Dallas getting in behind on several occasions.

Leko and Bonne's runs into wide areas will in theory drag Huddersfield's centre halves out of position, thus opening up space in the centre for Charlton's more advanced midfielders to exploit.

Give Taylor more game time

The Charlton boss will no doubt be keen to get more minutes into Lyle Taylor after he made his return to the first team fold last weekend, by bringing him on in the second half of tonight's game, the former AFC Wimbledon striker will be able to take advantage of increased space when Huddersfield inevitably tire in the latter stages of the game.

His ability to hold the ball up and bring others into play will certainly add another positive dimension to Charlton's attacking play, whilst it will also be fascinating to see how he complements the skill set of Bonne if the two are up top together.
