After just missing out on promotion under Frank Lampard last season, Derby County have made an underwhelming start to their Sky Bet Championship campaign under Phillip Cocu.

Inconsistency has been a big problem for the Rams this season and as we approach the halfway point in the campaign, they currently find themselves 16th in the Championship table, nine points outside the play-offs.

A lot of change went on at the club over the summer, but it's fair to say that even the post pessimistic of Derby supporters didn't expect things to be quite this bad.

Derby are without a win in their last five matches and if their results don't improve soon, they are in danger of being dragged into a relegation battle.

There's still time for the team to turn things around, but there's no doubt that some things must improve if Derby are to get their season back on track.

Here are THREE trends we've seen emerge at Derby so far this season...

Struggling on the road

Derby have really struggled away from home so far this season and remain without an away win in the Championship since their opening game of the season against Huddersfield.

In their nine away league matches since then, they've taken just three points out of a possible 27.

They're yet to keep a clean sheet away from home in the league and have lost their last their last six away matches without scoring a single goal.

There's still a long way to go this season, but there's no doubt whatsoever that Derby need to start winning matches away from home again if they're to get their campaign back on track.

Fairly consistent at home

By contrast, Derby have been fairly solid at home this season - they've conceded nine goals in their twelve home matches and have also kept five clean sheets.

Their 1-0 loss to Millwall at the weekend was only their second home defeat of the season and brought an end to an eleven-match unbeaten run at Pride Park.

They've been so poor away from home, you could say that Derby's home form is the only thing keeping them out of a relegation battle at the moment.

Lack of goals

Another problem for Derby so far this season is that they've struggled to score goals - only Middlesbrough and Luton have scored less in the Championship.

Martyn Waghorn is the Rams' top scorer with six league goals, Tom Lawrence has scored five and Chris Martin has scored four - no other Derby player this season has scored more than one.

Derby fans will hope that the introduction of Wayne Rooney to the team as a player in January will spark the team into life and inspire other players to start scoring.
