After two good results (a win and a draw) things were looking on the up for Wolverhampton Wanderers fans.

It seemed like Paul Lambert had settled into the job and was in the process of turning things around.

But a defeat against fellow relegation strugglers Cardiff City, after being 1-0 up, was a real kick in the teeth and a return to reality for Wolves.

Paul Lambert will be itching for this month to end so that the January transfer window re-opens and he can reshuffle his pack.

He has already expressed his plans to axe a number of fringe players and bring in higher quality additions.

Lambert will undoubtedly already be lining up several targets and discussing terms with them to try to get them in.

We can expect Wolves to do their January business early in the window as they desperately need to escape from their rut so here are 3 deals that Lambert should try to complete in the first week.

Ben Marshall

Wolves have recently been linked with a move for Blackburn's Ben Marshall and this would be a real coup.

With his contract expiring in the summer and rumours of a refusal, Marshall could be available for a cut-price £1.5m in January.

The 25-year-old can play as a winger, central midfielder or a full back and he has bags of talent defensively and in the attacking areas.

Grant Hanley

Another player that Lambert worked with at Blackburn is physical centre half Grant Hanley.

The Newcastle defender is really struggling for game time considering the good performances of Jamaal Lascelles, Ciaran Clark and Chancel Mbemba.

A reunion with Paul Lambert on loan would help him reignite his stalling career with regular game time in the Championship.

Sam Gallagher

gallagher

Southampton striker Sam Gallagher is currently on a season-long loan at Blackburn Rovers but the Saints have admitted they will sell if a big offer comes in this January and Wolves are considering it.

With nine goals this season for struggling Blackburn, Gallagher has proved that he is a top striker at this level.

The 21-year-old is a towering centre forward who is a handful for the defence with his physical presence and eye for goal.
