Sheffield United are in a great position to finally win promotion back to the second tier after falling short too often for their fans' liking.

Chris Wilder has turned things around after a slow start as Blades boss and now Sheffield United sit 2nd in the league, scrapping with Scunthorpe United and Bolton Wanderers for those top two automatic spots.

Wilder, who guided Northampton to promotion from League Two last year, will know that there is still a long way to go in this league and he'll be keen to not end up the same way as the last several managers at Bramall Lane, who have fallen at the last hurdle (or even before).

Therefore the January transfer window is vital and if they can add even more quality to their squad then surely they'll be able to secure promotion.

Here are 3 players they need to tie up in the first week of January.

Dan Burn

Sheffield United have previously been linked with a move for Dan Burn and could resurrect their interest given that he is not getting as much game time as he'd have hoped at Wigan.

The towering 6'7'' centre half was a regular at Fulham and Birmingham previously and has experience to aid Sheffield United's promotion push.

The 24-year-old is also a threat from set pieces and it's almost impossible to beat him in the air.

Josh Murphy

Josh Murphy

Josh Murphy is finding game time hard to come by at Norwich and has been outshone by his twin brother Jacob Murphy so far this campaign.

The 21-year-old has bags of pace, energy and ability to beat defenders with ease.

Sheffield United could do with one more talented winger and the Norwich man could be available on a loan deal.

Ethan Ebanks-Landell

Sheffield United are currently reaping the benefits of having talented centre back Ethan Ebanks-Landell on a season-long loan from Wolves.

Paul Lambert wants to get rid of players in January so Ebanks-Landell could be set for a permanent switch in January as all three parties seem keen on the deal.

The 24-year-old is composed at the back and with his deal set to expire in the summer, he will be keen to get his future sorted.
