Currently sitting rock-bottom of the Championship table, the January transfer window looks like it could well be a make or break period for Luton Town.

They were emphatically promoted from League One last season but have so far struggled to find any consistency in the second-tier, with a 3-1 defeat to Millwall on New Year's Day sending them to the foot of the table.

Here we take a look at THREE priorities the club needs to sort this month...

More experience

Luton have played really well in plenty of their matches this season but they clearly lack nouse and Championship experience.

Both are often needed if you want to survive in the second tier and Luton simply do not have enough of it. It was on show once again on New Year's Day when they threw away a one goal lead to lose 3-1 to Millwall.

A few more experienced heads and they may have been able to take at least a point from the Den and in previous matches as well.

Wing-backs needed

In recent weeks, Graeme Jones has proven more willing to ditch his beloved diamond formation in order to introduce more width to his side with a 3-4-3.

It has shown real signs as promise but at the moment they simply do not have the adequate players needed in either wing-back position.

Against Millwall they had Alan Sheehan on the left side and James Bree on the right, both astute defenders, but both perhaps lacking the necessary energy to bomb up and down the side for 90 minutes.

Striking competition

Whilst James Collins has adapted to the Championship impressively, he does not have much competition to push for the loan striking role in Jones' 3-4-3.

Harry Cornick has proved effective in front of goal in flashes but another more physical presence in attack should be a target for Jones this month if he wants to give his side the best chance of survival.

Should Collins get injured, their chances of survival would be in real jeapordy as things stand.
