January is always a busy time for any manager, and managers up and down the country will have to make some key decisions surrounding their squad during the transfer window next month.

The first month of the new year can make or break a team's season. That quality player can be brought in to help a side go for their goal of promotion, while the loss of a key player can sometimes lead to a team being sucked into a relegation battle if a replacement can't be found.

Here, we look at three transfer decisions that Steve Cooper faces in January...

Whether to let Declan John go

Left-back John has been at The Liberty Stadium since 2018, but he has struggled to break into the Swansea side under Graham Potter or Cooper.

Having made only 17 appearances in 18 months, John will be demanding a move away sooner rather than later unless he is content with not even making the matchday squad.

While he has been out injured for part of the season, things are unlikely to get better for him between now and the New Year due to Jake Bidwell's consistent form.

Manager Cooper now faces the decision on whether to let the 24-year-old go as he could become unhappy under his tutelage, or whether he decides to keep him at the club for backup.

Whether to cash in on Ayew

Andre Ayew has been one of Swansea's standout performers this season after a loan spell with Fenerbahce during 2018-2019, and at the age of 30, he continues to go strong.

His form this season has seen promotion hopefuls Leeds United keep an eye on his progress, and Cooper will be left with the decision on whether he cashes in on his talisman.

Ayew isn't getting younger, and with the rumoured fee being just over £5 million, Swansea could find an investment in a young striker for that price.

This decision is likely to be the most difficult Cooper will face throughout January if Leeds were to come calling for Ayew's services.

Whether he takes Rhian Brewster on loan

Swansea are thought to be the favourites to land Brewster on loan from Liverpool this January, and the 19-year-old could prove to be a good replacement for Ayew if he was to leave.

Brewster has played under Cooper before for England under-17s, and the Swansea chief will know how to get the best out of the young forward.

Having made two appearances for the European Champions, Jurgen Klopp wants his teenage forward to go out and experience senior football elsewhere, and Cooper will be weighing up his current options up front as he targets the England under-17 World Cup winner.
