Lee Johnson has often been very adept within the transfer market when it comes to bringing players into the club, but as with every manager, they also have the players who have proven to be flops when arriving at a club.

The Bristol City gaffer will be hoping to avoid the same this January, as he and his backroom staff look to spark some life back into their play-off push after two consecutive defeats has seen them fall to seventh.

Here, we take a look at three transfer decisions that faces Lee Johnson next month, almost four years on from his arrival at Ashton Gate...

Whether to keep or sell Marley Watkins

Watkins signed for the club from Barnsley for £1 million in the summer of 2018, and Johnson will be faced with the decision of deciding the striker's future.

The 29-year-old is still under contract for another 18 months, but has only made 20 appearances halfway through his contract.

Johnson could afford to get him off the books permanently, with the striker being fifth choice in the pecking order and not even making the bench on a regular occasion.

Watkins could be sold for a reasonable fee if a suitable bidder comes forward, or a loan club could be found to try and afford his wages.

Finding a loan destination for Antoine Semenyo

Johnson has already stated that young striker Antoine Semenyo could be considered for a loan away from the club.

Having been a regular on the bench this season to fill City's 'club-developed' quota, Newport County are now thought to be interested in the striker, the 19-year-old having spent six months there last season.

Johnson, however, may want his talented teen to go out and get games at a higher level in League One, or he may decide to send him Newport's way to try and get him his confidence back in front of goal.

Whether to recall Joe Morrell

Morrell has been out on loan with Lincoln City this season in League One, and the talented central midfielder has been at the heartbeat of the Imps' midfield.

Having helped Wales to European Championships 2020, his good form could earn him a recall to City in January if Johnson feels like he can benefit the squad.

Recalling the midfielder to sit on the bench and fill the 'club-developed' quota could allow Semenyo to go out on loan, or the 22-year-old could even slot in to the centre of midfield and be the creative playmaker that the Robins require.
