Despite their lofty finish in League One last term, Plymouth Argyle are struggling at the foot of the division this season.

The Pilgrims sit rock bottom of the third tier, having won just one of their opening fourteen league games, in a season where a lot was expected of Derek Adams' men after finishing just one place outside of the playoffs last year.

Their 3-2 home defeat to Burton Albion at the weekend was their ninth defeat of the campaign, and having conceded 25 goals in the league already, the Green Army will be fearful of their team's chances of surviving relegation this season.

Nevertheless, there is still a long, long way to go, and with the January transfer window fast approaching, that is the perfect time for Adams to bring in new faces in order to breed new life into Home Park.

With that being said, here, we take a look at three players Argyle should look to be signing in January...

MK Dons' Joe Walsh could be a shrewd signing for Argyle.

The centre-half has been an everpresent in a Dons defence that boasts the best defensive record in League Two, having conceded just eight goals in fourteen league games.

It's clear that Argyle need defensive reinforcements having shipped 25 goals this season, and at 26-years old, Walsh is in his prime years and could be a good signing for Argyle.

Should a move for Walsh fail to materialise, Yeovil Town's Sowunmi could be a superb signing for Plymouth.

At 6-foot-6, the 22-year old would add real presence and strength to the Plymouth defence.

At a young age of 22, Sowunmi has made over 70 appearances and could prove to be a huge signing for Argyle.

After scoring 25 goals in 50 games for League Two side Cheltenham Town last term, Eisa has made just four appearances for Bristol City since his £1.5million move to Ashton Gate.

It's clear that he isn't settling at Championship level, and a journey down the M5 to League One Argyle could be a good move for the 24-year old to get back amongst the goals.

Argyle have scored just 11 goals this season and Eisa could be of use to them on a loan deal.
