After 14 league games, Lincoln City look the real deal for promotion after a blistering start to the League Two campaign.

The Imps have been defeated just twice this season, and having won 10 of their last 14 league games, Danny Cowley's men look almost a certainty for automatic promotion this season.

Cowley's men have been in decent form of late - they won 6-2 away at Port Vale after a professional 1-0 victory at home to Crewe Alexandra, before being held to a 1-1 draw at home to Cambridge United on Saturday afternoon.

The Lincolnshire side will look to get back to winning ways with yet another home game on Tuesday night, as they prepare to host Carlisle United in the hope of securing their sixth league victory of the season.

The Imps made some impressive signings in the summer, none other than top-scorer John Akinde who has five goals to his name in all competitions.

The upcoming January transfer window is going to be a very important period for Lincoln, and here, we take a look at three players they could look to sign in order to strengthen their promotion push...

Having been a free agent for what seems like a decade, the Imps should definitely look to approach the services for Jay-Emmanuel Thomas.

The 27-year old hasn't played a senior game since late February in 2017, so it would take time to get him back to full fitness, but it is a risk that needs to be taken.

At 6-foot-3, the forward has a similar physical prowess to Akinde and would suit Cowley's style of play to a tee.

He is a proven goalscorer at League One level, and would be a magnificent coup for the Imps.

To provide competition to the likes of Akinde up front, McDonald could be a shrewd signing for the Imps.

The 32-year old is an established goalscorer in League One having scored over 50 goals for Gillingham.

He is currently a free agent since his release from AFC Wimbledon in the summer, and could be worth a gamble on a short-term contract.

To add strength in depth to their midfield, Linganzi could be a player of use to Cowley's men.

The 28-year old has been a strong performer over the last couple of years for Portsmouth and Swindon Town, and the strong, combative midfielder could be a shrewd signing on a free transfer.
