It has been a fine season so far for Aitor Karanka's Middlesbrough, with the Teeside club showing all the signs of launching a sustained promotion push.

Boro currently sit one point clear of Hull City at the top of the Championship table, with just a third of the season remaining and having done some serious business int he January transfer window.

Karanka has brought in Premier League players Gaston Ramirez and Richie de Laet on loan, and also splashed the cash on deadline day to bring Blackburn Rovers goal machine Jordan Rhodes to the Riverside.

Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur are in a similarly lofty position in the Premier League, with Mauricio Pochettino's men sitting in second place, ahead of arch-rivals Arsenal on goal difference.

Spurs' good form has been bad news for some members of their squad, however, with several fringe players or youth talents failing to secure regular first-team football.

Here at FLW, we've looked at THREE players at White Hart Lane who could add quality to Boro's squad during the emergency loan window in the next few weeks......

Tom Carroll

Long tipped as one of Spurs' stars of the future, Carroll has finally made something of a breakthrough into the first team this season, after spending last season on loan at Swansea City.

However, he has started just four of his 21 Premier League appearances in total for the club and with competition including Mousa Dembele, Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli, Eric Dier and Ryan Mason in central midfield, Carroll may benefit from a loan spell away.

A fine passer of the ball but also adept in a defensive midfield position, the 23-year-old's skill set would complement Karanka's existing midfield options and would add some class and energy to their promotion challenge.

Josh Onomah

Since making his senior debut in the FA Cup last season, Onomah has enjoyed a breakthrough into Pochettino's matchday squad on a semi-regular basis this season.

The England Under-19 international has featured 13 times in all competitions but has started just two games, and with the club boasting several bigger names in the wide midfield area, a loan move would be perfect for the 18-year-old's development.

If the youngster could get a run of games under his belt and increase his confidence, he could make a telling contribution for Boro in the crucial final few months.

Clinton N'Jie

Clinton N'Jie

Possibly the victim of having a hefty price tag on his shoulders, N'Jie has failed to make a decisive impact in England so far since his move from Lyon in the summer, with his only two starts coming in the Europa League.

Nevertheless, when the Cameroon international has played he has often shown signs of what prompted Spurs to pay big money for him, acting as a constant threat out wide and on the break with his ability to beat defenders and play incisive passes.

Although Karanka already has players such as Stewart Downing, Gaston Ramirez and Albert Adomah who can play in a similar position, N'Jie's explosive nature and raw talent would be a fine addition to his promotion-chasing squad.
