After numerous changes to the squad and some unwanted players thrust out on loan, Rotherham United manager Neil Redfearn is now waiting for the January transfer window to open so he can prepare the Millers for what will be a tough second half of the season.

Rotherham will have to start looking to bring in players of the highest pedigree sooner or later if they want to push on in the Championship for seasons to come, and a club that they could look to sign players from is Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur.

The Millers have taken the likes of Tom Lawrence, Vadis Odija Ofoe and Zeki Fryers from Premier League sides in the past two seasons and while they have mostly brought success, their short term loans see them unable to stay and prosper at the club.

Rotherham have the potential to be a solid Championship club, and a few new signings could make that happen sooner rather than later.

Who else to start with than ambitious midfielder Grant Ward.

The Millers already have the youngster on loan and, in January or in the foreseeable future, it is very likely that Redfearn will attempt to sign him on a permanent deal.

After a cracking pre-season, the 21-year-old has put in a few performances of quality but his young age will mean that Rotherham could use him for years to come as he looks to be a hot-prospect.

Redfearn told The Star: 'The boy has got ability, there's no two ways about it. He is learning the game so, like all young players, he does daft stuff at times, but I think the benefits of him far outweigh his learning curve.'

His direct playing style and ambition to shoot from long range are just a few good aspects of his game.

He is athletic and determined and with the first team at Tottenham having a great season, it would be wise for him to pursue his career at a club such as Rotherham to stop him from stagnating in the reserve team at Spurs.

Clinton N'Jie

This would be an ambitious signing for Redfearn but it would be a vital boost to the club.

The Spurs forward has been on the fringes of the first team, making seven substitute appearances this season.

The possibility of moving to the Championship however should be a real option for the 22 year-old. His erratic movements make him hard for defenders to keep up with and his vision is great for a young player.

After making the move from Lyon in the summer, N'Jie has found opportunities hard to come by. Sitting behind the PFA Young player of the year Harry Kane and the mercurial Son-Heung-Min in the pecking order is not ideal for the young player.

He would be a lift to the club if Redfearn was ambitious enough, and a successful move to the Championship could definitely see his stock rise like many young players before him.

Milos Veljkovic

Millers boss Redfearn has come through as a top manager for developing young players.

Centre-half Veljkovic was part of the Under-20 Serbia side who shocked everyone to win the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in June, and he would be a great addition for Redfearn.

The Serbian played in the Championship last season with both Middlesbrough and Charlton Athletic, and while a shoulder injury hindered his season, he managed to make a come-back to win the Under-20 World Cup.

Successfully moving up the Spurs and Serbian age ranks, it will not be long before the defender has to either make a bid for the first team or move away from Tottenham. However, as Spurs' great season continues, it is looking more likely that Veljkovic will move on from the London side.

Redfearn would certainly be able to attract the Serbian to the New York Stadium, and it is not unrealistic for Redfearn to sign players and look to the future of the club.

While he could stay at Spurs, Veljkovic could take a step down to the Championship in order to further his career and Rotherham will be looking for players of his calibre to steady their season.
