Newcastle's charge for an immediate return to the Premier League suffered a hit in recent weeks but Rafael Benitez' side returned to winning ways in style at the weekend, putting four past promotion rivals Birmingham City.

However, seeing Brighton rise to the top of the table on Friday evening, albeit temporarily, as shown Newcastle that the job is not done yet and Benitez is likely to bolster his side further in January as he aims to secure promotion.

Under Benitez, Newcastle's transfer structure has been a lot more impressive and the Spaniard will continue down that route in January, where moving for Premier League outcasts could provide a massive boost.

These THREE players would not only help Newcastle's promotion charge but would also see Newcastle remain competitive in the top-flight upon their return, giving the Magpies a platform to build success upon in the coming years....

Tyrone Mings

Hartlepool United v AFC Bournemouth - Capital One Cup Second Round

The Magpies should look to secure the services of Tyrone Mings as the defender has earned just one appearance in first-team football for the Cherries this term - which came in the League Cup.

The 23-year-old still has a big future ahead of him but needs to find regular football to fulfil his potential, which could come at Newcastle in the Championship - and then in the Premier League if Newcastle secure their rise.

Brendan Galloway

Spending an awful first-half of the season on-loan at West Brom, where Tony Pulis has been reluctant to use the talented Everton defender, that deal is likely to be cut-short in January and Ronald Koeman will make Galloway available again.

The 20-year-old could excel with the Magpies and learning from Rafael Benitez will be crucial in his development.

Whilst Everton won't want to sell, a successful spell with Newcastle could give the Tyneside giants something to think about next summer.

Carl Jenkinson

Another defensive option for Newcastle, and one that could be secured permanently at the end of the season, Carl Jenkinson impressed during his two-years on-loan at West Ham but has failed to build upon those opportunities when returning to Arsenal.

With five appearances this season, the England international has failed to impress and his long-term future is in doubt. Whilst a permanent deal in January is unlikely, a loan move is an option and then a permanent deal for the 24-year-old next summer could be an option.
