Wigan Athletic came from behind to snatch a late victory over Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday evening, to move within four points of moving out of the Championship relegation zone.

The Latics, who were 1-0 down at half time, produced a stunning comeback to snatch all three points in the final minute of Tuesday's clash.

Kieffer Moore levelled up the score on 56 minutes, before Jamal Lowe's 90th minute header gave Paul Cook's men only their second win in 18 league games.

The victory was also the Latics' first win on home soil since they beat Nottingham Forest back in October.

Here we take a look at three things we learnt about Wigan following their 2-1 victory yesterday evening...

The victory could be a turning point

The Latics recorded their first win in three league games and will hope to build on the six points they have taken from their last four games.

Before Tuesday's game, Paul Cook's side had only taken three points from seven games at the DW Stadium and this win could go a long way in helping the Latics pick up more results at home.

They still sit four points off Charlton Athletic who occupy the last spot above the relegation places, but this win will give Wigan encouragement and belief they have a chance of staying in the league.

Their home form is going to be key in the relegation battle

Despite it being their first win on home soil since October, the Latics have only lost once at the DW in their last five games, proving that although they weren't picking up wins they are still difficult to beat at home.

The three recent home draws included an impressive display against West Bromwich Albion and Derby County in December.

In both of these fixtures, Wigan let the lead slip but Tuesday's result shows that there is some resilience about the side and that they have found a way to win at home.

Wigan only managed 11 points on the road for the whole of last season and have so far only managed seven points away from home this term.

Should the Latics avoid the drop again this season, their home form will be crucial.

Kieffer Moore and Jamal Lowe are hitting form at the right time

Kieffer Moore didn't get off to the best start in a Wigan shirt, failing to score in his opening 12 games for the Latics.

The 27-year-old scored 17 goals for Barnsley in League One last term before making the switch to Wigan in the summer.

Moore scored two in five games across November and the start of December before missing the following seven games through injury.

Fans will be delighted to see Moore score on his first start for the side since November and will hope the 27-year-old can kick on from there.

As for Jamal Lowe, the 25-year-old scored his second goal of the season and should he and his teammate Moore kick on from here, it will give the Latics a great chance of beating the drop.
