Wigan Athletic failed to capitalise on an impressive first-half performance against Huddersfield Town on Saturday, with the game ending in a 1-1 draw.

The Terriers arrived at the DW Stadium on the back of a late-win against Charlton Athletic in midweek to take on a Wigan side that haven't won since October.

But it was Paul Cook's side that started by the far the brightest and were in the ascendancy in the first half.

They were duly rewarded two minutes before the break as Josh Windass latched onto Kamil Grabara's poor clearance and slid the ball past him into the Huddersfield net.

The Terriers grew into the game in the second half and grabbed a deserved equliser in the 70th minute when Karlan Grant curled a strike into the top corner.

Both sides had late chances to win the game but neither were able to seal what would've been a huge win, with both sides caught up in the relegation battle.

The result leaves the Latics down in the relegation zone, two points away from safety.

Cook's side face an in-form Blackburn Rovers next weekend but before the focus shifts to that game, here are three things we learnt about Wigan from the weekend's result...

They continue to struggle to put in complete performances.

Cook will likely feel that his side's displays on the pitch have warranted more points than the 18 they have as we near the half-way point in the season.

Too many times, however, they have struggled to put in complete performances and been unable to get the most out of games–as the late goals against Bristol City, Derby County, and Swansea City illustrate.

Wigan looked the better side in the first half but suffered an all too familiar fate after the break, losing control of the game and letting Huddersfield back in.

They have some fantastic defensive options.

With Chey Dunkley still missing from the line-up, Cedric Kipre and Kal Naismith were hugely impressive in central defence once again for the Latics.

As they were against West Bromwich Albion in midweek, the centre-backs were very solid defensively and Cook must feel very satisfied with his current options.

Josh Windass is a real weapon in the final third.

With Keiffer Moore missing, Jamal Lowe and Windass were used as the main options upfront–with the latter playing in the number 10 role.

He was a nuisance throughout the game for the Huddersfield backline and looked Wigan's biggest attacking threat.

Windass created his opener for himself with his high-energy pressing and almost grabbed himself a second the same way.

You'd imagine Moore will return when he is fit but after this showing, Cook surely has to keep Windass involved.
