Sheffield Wednesday romped to a 4-1 win this weekend at Middlesbrough, as Garry Monk's men put in a scintillating attacking display at the Riverside.

Steven Fletcher and Adam Reach were a constant thorn in Boro's side as the goals flowed in the first half, while the likes of Barry Bannan looked like being back to their best in the middle of the park.

Wednesday look like they have settled in well to life under Monk, and spirits are high in the Hillsborough camp at the moment given their unbeaten start under the former Leeds and Birmingham City manager.

The Owls have had to watch on with envy as cross-city rivals Sheffield United have reached the Premier League ahead of them, but if they can keep performing to the levels they showed this weekend, then there is every chance they can be in the promotion hunt at the end of the season.

It was a strong showing, in particular, this weekend which caught the eye, and we here at FLW looked at THREE things we learnt about the Owls in the win...

They are a huge threat from crosses

The goals showed it this weekend, but Wednesday affirmed their place as one of the more dangerous sides from set-pieces in the division.

Steven Fletcher is as dangerous as ever in the box and the delivery from the likes of Bannan and Reach always ensures the Owls have a big chance from dead-ball positions.

Monk is getting things right from the off

New manager Monk has come into Sheffield and has seemingly put his stamp on proceedings with relative ease.

The Owls look organised and hard to beat at the moment, while they are also playing some good attacking football at times which is leading to plenty of goals.

It's a good recipe for Monk and one which he will hope his team continue to execute over the course of the season.

They can challenge for the top six

This year's Championship looks as open as ever, and if Wednesday can ensure they keep some consistency in their game, there is no reason why they can't be in the promotion hunt.

The Owls got to the play-offs twice under Carlos Carvalhal but have faltered ever since. However, Monk seems to have brought some confidence to the ranks, and with no other club in the league making a massive push thus far, Wednesday will fancy their chances of at least being in the mix.
