Nottingham Forest exited the Carabao Cup on Tuesday evening, as they were thrashed by an Arsenal side that were in a ruthless mood at the Emirates Stadium.

The Reds fell behind in the first-half, as Gabriel Martinelli converted Callum Chambers' expertly-weighted cross to see the Gunners head into the break in the lead.

That lead was then doubled when Rob Holding headed home, to mark his timely return from an injury lay-off.

Joe Willock and Reiss Nelson both got on the scoresheet, before Martinelli grabbed his second goal of the game to see the Premier League side progress to the next stage of the competition.

It means that Nottingham Forest can now turn their attentions to their league campaign, where it looks as though they could be challenging for a long-awaited promotion back into the top-flight.

They take on Stoke City on Friday evening, where they'll be keen to get back to winning ways.

We look at THREE things we have learnt about Lamouchi's side after this heavy defeat in the Carabao Cup.

Forest didn't disgrace themselves by any means

For the majority of Championship teams that come up against a side of Arsenal's quality, it won't come as a surprise to see that they set up defensively.

Forest gave a good account of themselves, and if it wasn't for Arsenal's clinical finishing in front of goal, then the scoreline wouldn't have flattered the Gunners as much as it did.

Lamouchi should be pleased with his side's efforts on the night, and he'll feel as though Arsenal weren't five goals better than his team.

The young players will have gained experience from this occasion

There were some young players involved for Forest on the night, who will have learnt a lot from the experience of playing against some top-class players.

Brennan Johnson was one of those to feature against Arsenal, and the midfielder will fancy his chances of challenging for a regular place in the starting XI as the season progresses.

Alex Mighton and Jordan Lawrence-Gabriel also came on as substitutes late on in the game, and they'll be hoping they can take some positives out of the game time they had for the first-team.

Lamouchi's priorities are evidently with their league campaign

With Arsenal well ahead in the contest, Lamouchi opted to substitute some of his key players, which was a smart move by the Forest boss.

The likes of Joe Lolley and Joao Carvalho were withdrawn during the game, as it seems likely that they will be involved for the Reds when they are next in action against Stoke City on Friday.

Their promotion bid this season is far more important than the Carabao Cup, so Lamouchi will want to keep his key players fit for more important games.
