It was another difficult night for Championship new boys Luton Town on Tuesday night, as they lost 1-0 to Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough, suffering their third straight league defeat in the process.

It was Kadeem Harris who sealed the win for Wednesday, with the Owls pouncing own a loose clearance from Luton goalkeeper Simon Sluga, before working the ball into the box for the summer signing to tap home his second goal in four appearances this season.

The result leaves Luton second from bottom in the early Championship standings, having picked up just a single point from their opening four games of the season.

As a result there is much for Hatters boss Graeme Jones to consider as he looks to end their poor run of form at the start of the campaign, and get his side off the mark in the Championship.

Here, we take a look at three things we learned about Luton from their latest defeat.

They need to take chances

It is worth noting that Luton did have opportunities to take something away from Hillsborough last night.

With the score at 0-0, Ryan Tunnicliffe fired over from inside the Wednesday penalty area, while a speculative effort 30-yard effort with Wednesday 'keeper Kieren Westwood out of his goal from Andrew Shinnie also cleared the bar, and Sonny Bradley also missed the target with a free header from a Jacob Butterfield corner.

The fact that Luton are creating these sort of chances is encouraging, but they are going to have to start putting them into the back of the net if they are to survive at this level, because if they don't they will get punished, something which leads us on to...

A tough start to time in England for Simon Sluga

It's probably fair to say it hasn't been the easiest start to the season for Luton's record-signing, Simon Sluga.

Having come under scrutiny after allowing Britt Assombalonga's weak shot to slide underneath him and gift Middlesbrough a goal on the opening night of the season, Sluga is again seeing question marks against his name after his performance at Hillsborough.

It was Sluga's haste to get the ball out of his penalty area that handed possession back to Wednesday well inside the Luton half, and from there the hosts were able to respond by working it back into an area from which Harris was able to tap home the match-winner.

Following a difficult start to the campaign, the Croatian's confidence will understandably be shaken, and while plenty of goalkeepers before him have recovered from tough starts to adjust to life in the English game, you wonder whether Luton have the time to wait for Sluga to do that right now.

Saturday taking on a fresh importance

In fairness to Luton, it has not been an easy start to the season in terms of opposition.

Already this season, they have faced Middlesbrough, Cardiff and West Brom - all of whom will be expected to challenge for promotion this year - as well as Sheffield Wednesday, who currently top this season's early standings following their win last night.

That however, is set to change on Saturday, as they travel to Oakwell to face fellow League One promotion winners Barnsley.

With the Tykes themselves having picked up just a single point from their last three games, this does feel like an opportunity for Luton to get back on track against a side they will be expected to compete with for survival come the end of the campaign.

This therefore feels like a hugely significant game for the Hatters, who lost 3-2 at Oakwell last season. You imaginehowever, that getting that elusive first league win of the current campaign, will take priority over a desire for revenge for that particular defeat.
