The Paul Hurst era kicked-off at Ipswich Town on Saturday with an entertaining 2-2 draw against newly-promoted Blackburn Rovers.

The former Shrewsbury boss has made several new signings this summer, predominantly from the lower leagues and he gave debuts to four new recruits, including Gwion Edwards who got the opener after just five minutes.

However, Tony Mowbray’s men had turned things around by half-time with Bradley Dack and Danny Graham giving them the lead.

Despite creating chances throughout the game, the equaliser didn’t come until stoppage time, with loan signing Tayo Edun ensuring Hurst ended with a point.

In reality, it was fully merited for the Tractor Boys and the performance will have given fans optimism about what the future could hold.

Here we look at three things we learnt from Ipswich after the game…

There’s no doubt that the star man from Saturday was Edwards, who was brought from Peterborough this summer.

Not only did he score but his overall game was fantastic, including a sublime bit of skill in the second half.

On this evidence he is a fine signing and could excite the fans this season.

Parting company with Mick McCarthy last season was a big decision as he got results, however the main criticism was the style of play.

They were far too predictable and boring at times, with a section of supporters wanting a more adventurous side.

And, going by Saturday, they could be in for a treat. Ipswich played high-intensity, attacking football which the fans will get behind.

Despite the positives, they still needed a last minute, somewhat fortunate, goal to draw with a newly-promoted team.

That proves that the side are still short in key areas and Hurst needs to do his utmost to get in several new faces before the deadline on Thursday.
