Hull City continued their very impressive run of form under Grant McCann by battering Preston North End 4-0 on Wednesday night.

The Tigers came into this game looking to build on their spirited 2-2 draw away to Middlesbrough on Sunday by picking up maximum points when they returned to the KCOM Stadium to face a stuttering Preston side.

The game threatened to go either way early on but Grant McCann’s side never looked back after Jarrod Bowen opened the scoring on the half-hour mark. This run now means Hull have won four out of the last six, and have lost just once in that same period.

Here, we take a look at three things we clearly learnt about Hull City following their resounding win…

They were ruthless

In just the fourth minute, Preston’s Sean Maguire came inches away from opening the scoring as his curling effort struck the far post, but Preston couldn’t make their good opportunities count for goals. Meanwhile, the Tigers were completely ruthless in their finishing as they took their goal tally to 13 in their last six outings.

Preston came into this game as a side that has been known to be very clinical this season but were blown away by the ruthlessness shown from Grant McCann’s front men at the KCOM Stadium. Hull scored a mix of goals, but all stemming from very well crafted moves to which they finished superbly. It certainly bodes well for them if they can keep up this conversion.

Bowen is right to back himself

Earlier in the week, Grant McCann revealed that Bowen has clearly set out that he wants to be the league’s top scorer come the end of the season and is very much on track to doing so.

This game was the second in succession where Bowen scored a brace after his double at the Riverside clinched a draw having been 2-0 down at half-time. Every striker who wants to score a high number of goals has to have a somewhat selfish characteristic when they get into the box, to take a chance for themselves. Bowen has shown the confidence that he can do it on his own in the final third.

This game also showed his ability to link up very well with others as his setup for the third goal was tremendous to get to the byline, to then cut back for Grosicki to prod into an empty net.

They are surely top six contenders

A 4-0 win in the Championship is a superb result regardless of who you’re playing but to get it against a side that were sitting in the top two at 3pm on Saturday is immense.

Can you guess the nationality of these Hull players?

The Lilywhites have established themselves as firm contenders for at least the play-offs this season and for Hull to dispatch of them so emphatically just proves their credentials.

Hull have now beaten three of the current top six as they swept aside Fulham 3-0 and beat Forest 2-1. There is no reason why Hull can’t push on now and break into the top six after proving they can mix it with the best sides.
