Charlton Athletic beat Barnsley 2-1 in the Championship on Saturday.

The stage was set for Charlton to secure only their second win in 18 Championship matches, and to resurrect their season which had taken a rapid downward spiral throughout the first-half of the season.

Goals in the first 45-minutes from Lyle Taylor and Andre Green handed Charlton the three-points, which takes them to 33 for the campaign - now nine ahead of the 23-place Tykes and four above Wigan in 22nd.

Lee Bowyer's side are far from safe but he'll have taken a lot of positives from that win, and here we take a look at three things we learnt about Charlton after the weekend:

Prolific partnership developing

Charlton have a few prolific goal-scorers in their team - Taylor the obvious one, with the eight-goal Macauley Bonne sidelined.

But Saturday saw Taylor start up-front alongside Aston Villa-loanee Green, and Bowyer looks to have unearthed his side's newest striker partnership - the pair linked up effectively on Saturday and appear to have a good relationship on and off the pitch.

Both managed to get on the score-sheet against Barnsley and that'll delighted fans. Charlton have been thwart with injuries this season and haven't had a real striking duo to rally behind, but if Taylor can stay fit, he and Green will make for a dangerous attack who should be able to keep their team safe from relegation.

Phillips keeps getting better

Charlton fans have long known this, but in Dillon Phillips they have a safe pair of hands. He pulled off a number of saves on Saturday to keep Barnsley down to just one goal, and he's arguably been their most improved player this campaign.

Phillips, 24, was a good League One player for Charlton but he had a fair few doubters to prove wrong in the second-tier this time round. And he's done just that - clean sheets have been hard to come by but Phillips has made some tremendous saves this season, and Charlton fans know just how vital he is to their side's fate this season.

Vulnerable to the counter

At 2-0 up, Charlton had little need to go in search of a third, and they were hit on the counter by Barnsley who knicked a needless goal back.

Bowyer's side made the final stages of the game on Saturday harder than it needed to be. Barnsley exposed Charlton on the counter-attack more than once, but only managed to punish them on the single occasion.

Charlton are vulnerable on the counter. They have been throughout the season but on Saturday it was down to game management from Bowyer's side - Charlton got carried away in search of a third, and could quite easily have lost all the points because of it.
