Brentford top the Championship after a stunning 5-1 win against newly-promoted Rotherham at Griffin Park on Saturday.

The Bees were fantastic from the first whistle, dominating the ball and creating many opportunities.

Thankfully for Dean Smith, his side were clinical in front of goal too, showing a real ruthless edge to score five goals.

That hasn’t always been the case as whilst the side have always been easy on the eye, they have often lacked that killer instinct.

Obviously, this is only one game but it’s a very positive sign and will give the side confidence heading into upcoming fixtures.

Here we look at three things we’ve learnt from Saturday’s thumping win…

The talented midfielder has been the subject of big bids from Swansea, so didn’t feature against the Millers.

Whilst there’s no doubting that Woods will be sorely missed over the course of the season as he is a fine player, Brentford at least showed they have quality to come in.

They still controlled possession, created chances and played on the front foot and that will have delighted Smith.

Many expect Rotherham to struggle this season so it’s risky to read too much into Saturday’s game.

However, one undoubted positive was the performance of Neal Maupay. The striker scored twice and impressed.

After 12 goals in his first season, he could be ready to kick-on after settling into English football and could get near to 20 this season which would be massive for Brentford.

Even though Rotherham are a newly-promoted side, they are still competitive and would’ve been pumped up for their first game.

We saw Bolton beat West Brom proving that there’s no easy games at this level.

So, Brentford deserve full credit for beating Paul Warne’s men with ease and it is a promising sign for the future.
