Bradford City dropped out of the League Two automatic promotion spots after conceding a stoppage time winner to Port Vale at Valley Parade on Tuesday night.

Gary Bowyer's side had a chance to build on Saturday's 2-1 victory over Crawley Town and go level on points with Crewe Alexandra at the top of the League Two table.

Port Vale, who hadn't won away all season before Tuesday night, put an end to the Bantams' five-match winning streak thanks to former Bradford man Will Atkinson.

Despite the hosts dominating the second half, it was Vale who came away with all three points after Atkinson's 93rd minute winner.

Gary Bowyer will not have much time to dwell on Tuesday's setback with the club looking to bounce back when they travel to Macclesfield on Saturday.

Here are three things we learnt about the Bantams following their defeat on Tuesday night...

The bad habit of switching off before the end

Will Atkinson's 93rd minute goal was the third consecutive goal the Bantams have conceded in the last ten minutes and the fifth across their 15 league games.

Manager Gary Bowyer acknowledged that his side do not do well enough in keeping concentration to the final minute of games.

Speaking to BBC West Yorkshire Sport Bowyer said: "You have to play from the first whistle to the last whistle and we haven't done well enough."

After surviving conceding late goals against both Morecambe and Crawley Town, City were punished on Tuesday night for another lapse of concentration.

Late goals are already a thorn in the Bantams side and they need to address this problem quickly if they are going to consistently be in the top three this season.

The have lost their knack for clean sheets

Bradford started their League Two campaign with three clean-sheets from their opening four games.

Since their win against Stevenage,  however in August, they have only kept one clean-sheet, which came in a 1-0 win over Walsall in September.

City have a handful of experienced defenders at their disposal but have struggled to shut out their opposition and have gone from keeping clean-sheets to developing a knack for conceding sloppy goals.

The Bantams have the third lowest goal difference in the top seven and will be keen to address this as they look to push back up into the automatic promotion places.

City no doubt got bags of goalscoring ability but it is their lack of clean-sheets and conceding needless goals which could be their undoing.

Sides relish a trip to Valley Parade

The Bantams have failed to win three of their seven home games so far this season, this is not the worst record in the world and might not be all of City's doing.

With a capacity of 25,136 Valley Parade is the biggest stadium by some way in the division, and is one of only three in the division which has hosted Premier League football.

On Tuesday night Port Vale joined Forest Green Rovers and Cambridge United in the category of teams who have taken points in West Yorkshire so far this term.

Despite victories against Northampton Town, Swindon Town and Crawley Town, Bradford have come away with the victories but in difficult fashion.

Northampton took the lead, whereas Swindon pegged City back before a winner and Crawley Town's late goal made it for a nervy finish.

Teams tend to, regardless of their quality, step-up at Valley Parade and it is something Bradford need to address before more teams take points off them this season.
