Blackpool climbed up to fourth in League One by beating North West rivals Fleetwood Town 3-1 at Bloomfield Road on Saturday.

The visitors came into the game on a five-game winning streak but it was Simon Grayson's side that were the more impressive in the opening exchanges and got their reward after 11 minutes, with Liam Feeney firing them into a 1-0 lead.

Sullay Kaikai's scored an audacious free-kick two minutes into the second half to double the lead for the Tangerines, curling one in from the left flank.

Armand Gnanduillet extended the gap to three goals in the 65th minute, rising highest to nod in a cross and put the game out of Fleetwood's reach.

The Trawlermen kept pushing and found a response through Conor McAleny in the 80th minute but it wasn't enough to stop Blackpool taking all three points.

Grayson will face his former side Sunderland next weekend but before the focus shifts to that game, here are three things we learnt about Blackpool after Saturday's victory...

They're serious play-off contenders.

Fleetwood were above the hosts in the table ahead of Saturday's game but the result has seen them leapfrog their north west rivals into fourth and show their credentials as serious play-off contenders.

Joey Barton's side had their chances but Blackpool were cut-throat and put in an excellent performance to outclass a team that are also fighting for a top-six place.

Blackpool are now unbeaten in League One since mid-October and are just four points from the top two.

They're in hot goalscoring form.

The Tangerines were excellent in front of goal once again, putting three past Fleetwood and taking their tally to 20 goals in their last eight games.

That flurry of goals has been led by Gnanduillet, who found the net again on Saturday and has now scored 11 times in League One this season.

They're not afraid of a physical battle.

It was a feisty north west derby at Bloomfield Road that at one point saw a brawl amongst fans spill out onto the pitch.

Barton's men have shown their ability to play in his image at times this season but there is no doubt that Blackpool won the physical battle on Saturday.

They showed a nastiness, committing 17 fouls in total, something that could serve them well in their promotion push.
