Rotherham United pushed within a point of safety with a shock 2-0 win over a previously high-flying Hull City, just a week after manager Neil Redfern claimed that some of his players were "not good enough" for the Championship.

Moses Odubajo gave the Millers a helping hand when he conceded a penalty inside the first half hour, which Lee Frecklington dispatched with power and precision, to give Rotherham the lead.

Jake Livermore almost bagged his second goal in as many games, but Lee Camp saved brilliantly to keep his side in front.

The goalscorer Frecklington almost cancelled out his good work, after he carelessly conceded possession, and helped send through Chuba Akpom, who could only hit the post when sent through on goal.

Frecklington continued his busy performance by sending through Joe Newell, who produced a spectacular finish to double Rotherham's advantage.

After Akpom had hit the post once more, the game was up, and Rotherham had confirmed a much needed win.

Here are THREE things we learned from this game.

1) Rotherham are up for the fight

Redfearn criticised his squad's general technical ability earlier in the week, but there was nothing questionable about the effort and spirit showed by the Rotherham side in this game.

Despite being up against it from the first minute, they showed grit and guile, and made the most of their limited chances, which are all attributes of successful survival candidates.

The squad reacted terrifically to Redfearn questioning his side's quality and there may be light at the end of the tunnel for the Millers.

2) Hull are defensively shaky at times

Even if you make the argument that this is a makeshift Hull back line, with Michael Dawson and Alex Bruce out injured, the defence looked unorganised and shaky when called upon.

This was highlighted in the defending for the second goal, which allowed Joe Newell to fire home the clincher.

Bruce will no doubt be assessing this in coming weeks as he looks to get his side back on track.

3) Lee Frecklington can lead the Millers

Despite a couple of shaky moments, the Rotherham captain led by example throughout the game, playing pivotal roles in both goals, scoring from the spot for the first, and play an excellent ball for the second.

Every time Hull went forward, he was back defending, in the thick of the action. His performance epitomised that of his side in this game.

The Millers need players on the pitch that can lead by example and if Frecklington continues impressive displays like this, then his team mates could learn from the skipper.
