Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink's QPR defeated Garry Monk's Leeds United by 3 goals to 1, at Loftus Road.

It was a game in which Monk's men never really got going, despite the pre-game optimism surrounding the new recruits, and Charlie Taylor looking likely to stay after starting left back for the Whites.

But things didn't start good at all for Monk, in his first game at the helm of United, conceding an extremely unattractive goal, bundled in by Nedum Onuoha practically on the goal line, after a poor Robert Green display.

Despite dominating possession, the Whites offered very little, leaving the likes of Massimo Luongo and Ben Gladwin to run the show in midfield.

However it was Tjaronn Chery who was magnificent for the R's throughout, and made it 2-0 just past the 70 minute mark, from the spot.

The game was lost there on in for Leeds, who lacked heavily in defensive cover, which would have definitely angered Garry Monk.

And then, things got bad to worse for Monk, with Sebastien Polter piercing a brutal left-foot half volley into the top right corner from an acute angle, leaving the R's in second place, after an exhilarating opening weekend of the EFL season.

So, what did we learn?

Here, FLW writer George Harbey identifies three things we learned from the fiesty encounter.

Tjaronn Chery will be the catalyst of all QPR's successes this year

The Dutchman who signed from FC Groningen last term was the shining light on Sunday afternoon, and replicated the outstanding form he showed last season to the Loftus Road faithful.

With 55 touches in the game, and a passing accuracy of 89%, Chery was instrumental for Hasselbaink's men in behind Polter, and furthermore, too hot to handle for Monk's men.

Despite having 43% possession, as opposed to Leeds' 57%, Hasselbaink's men did far much more with the ball.

You could basically guarantee that whenever the R's were forming a clinical counter attack, Chery would be at the heart of it, and if Rangers can perform like that every week, the 28 year old will be in his elements, scoring, and providing goals.

Kemar Roofe needs time to adapt to the Championship environment

When the former Oxford hotshot signed on at Leeds United this summer for a fee of £3million, it was obviously a hotly debated question whether the 23-year- old would be able to adapt to the harsh, gruelling Championship standard and environment.

Starting on the left hand side of a trio that consisted of himself, Stuart Dallas and Matt Grimes, Roofe tended to drift into a more central position, and did show brief glimpses of quality that he possessed in a glorious campaign last term.

Nevertheless, in a lacklustre forward line that didn't manage a single shot on target despite having 8 attempts to do so, things weren't the brightest for Roofe, let alone the magnificent travelling Leeds support behind them.

However, for Roofe's standards, it was quite a below par afternoon, who often found himself captivated by the presence of Nedum Onuoha, only to be replaced by Hadi Sacko in the 75th minute.

Roofe has failed to shake off his £3million price tag thus far, however with just one game down, he still has plenty of time to replicate the astonishing form he displayed last season, netting 18 times in 40 appearances.

Liam Bridcutt would be an influential signing for Leeds

Too many times in Sunday's contest, Leeds were outrun and caught off guard in midfield, and many pockets of space were occupied by the likes of Chery, Ben Gladwin, and Olamide Shodipo, who then galvanised a fearsome counter attack.

Furthermore, the spine of the Leeds team, that consisted of young man Ronaldo Vieira and Toumani Diagouraga, lacked any sort of stability or ruthlessness, making any sort of deal for Bridcutt even sweeter.

The Sunderland midfielder, who has been strongly linked with Leeds for many weeks now, would be an adequate acquitsion for the men in white, and would erase any chances for the opposition overpowering the Leeds midfield.

So QPR fans...what did you make of the game? Were you pleased with the performance shown on Sunday? Who was your man of the match? How much of a crucial player will Tjaronn Chery be this year?

Leeds fans...what did you make of the game? What went wrong in your eyes? How well did Kemar Roofe play in your opinion and what should be his regular position? How much of a crucial player would Liam Bridcutt be for Leeds?
