Charlie Austin bagged a brace, including a strike with just two minutes left on the clock, to limit Brighton and Hove Albion to a 2-2 draw at Loftus Road last night.

The first half in this anticipated clash was a scrappy affair, with QPR coming close to breaking the deadlock on the brink of half time, but David Stockdale produced a fine save to deny Rangers the lead.

The deadlock was however broken on 53 minutes when Lewis Dunk nodded back the ball from a corner and Dale Stephens produced a quality improvised finish, pulling out an overhead kick to bundle the ball home to give the visitors the lead.

Ravij Van La Parra soon doubled the lead when his long range strike escaped the hands of Robert Green.

Austin then halved the lead soon after, when he smashed home from a Matty Phillips cross, and Austin was the hero once more when he grabbed the equaliser with two minutes remaining, blasting home an unstoppable header to give QPR a point.

This happened after Lewis Dunk had been dismissed for a shocking tackle on Alejandro Faurlin.

FootballLeagueWorld writer Harry Smith identifies three things that we learned from this highly-entertaining encounter...

1) Charlie Austin is back

After a shaky few weeks and ineffectual substitute appearances, QPR's main man seems to be back to his best, bagging a typical poacher's brace in the second half to earn Rangers a draw.

Whatever his intentions, whether to earn himself a move to a Premier League club or to force QPR into handing him a lucrative new deal, having Austin back scoring again cannot be a bad thing.

He is without doubt proving to be one of the best strikers in the division.

2) Hasselbaink has a lot of work to do

Still without a win in his first two games in charge, fans will be demanding that new manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink lead them to the first win of his reign against Bristol City on Saturday.

The squad looked more of a unit than in previous weeks, but there is still a lot of organisation work to be done.

The signs are certainly positive, and QPR played pretty well last night, but getting that all important first win is vital for the new manager.

3) Brighton need be more prolific

One major problem so far this year has been seeing out games.

Brighton have drawn ten games, which is the most in the division, alongside Blackburn Rovers, Bolton Wanderers and Preston North End.

If Brighton could have grabbed another goal from any of their numerous chances, they could have seen this game out as a win, and would still be top of the table.

QPR and Brighton fans... what did you make of the game? How good is Austin? Can he fire you back to the top-flight? Could Brighton have defended better having gone 2-0 up? Let us know your thoughts and opinions in the comments below!
