Mick McCarthy's side are up to eighth and are only one point off of Sheffield Wednesday in six as they look to pick up form to aid their promotion push.

They face fierce competition from the sides around them with only four points separating Wednesday in sixth and Birmingham City in ninth.

Two second-half goals from veteran striker Daryl Murphy downed Paul Lambert's men to make it two defeats in two for Rovers and while they have hit the magical 40 point mark - Rotherham in 22nd are only 7 points behind.

Blackburn failed to capitalise on their bright start to the game and with a busy fixture list, Lambert's men began to falter and they conceded twice in the second half.

The Tractor Boys are back on track as they look to push for the play-offs but their next match is against a revitalised Rotherham who have picked up 10 points in four games.

Here are THREE things we learned from Ipswich's 2-0 win over Blackburn...

1) Birthday boy Murphy back on track

Ipswich striker Daryl Murphy celebrated his birthday in style as he scored twice against Rovers.

Despite the 33-year-old's excellent 2014/15 season where he scored 27 goals as Ipswich fell short in the play-offs, Murphy has not been as effective under McCarthy this season scoring ten goals in 29 appearances.

His goals against Blackburn were his first since he scored against Preston in January and as the striker looks to be coming to the end of his career, he will want to carry on scoring until the end of the season to show that he is a valuable player to the club.

2) Blackburn should be looking behind not ahead

It is all to easy to look to make late pushes for the play-off positions or make it into the top half of the table late on in the season - but Blackburn should be worrying about the teams behind them.

Both MK Dons and Rotherham United are beginning to fight to get away from the relegation zone and they are on a 3 game and a 4 game unbeaten streak respectively. Further behind, Charlton are also unbeaten in three and for the teams above them it is looking very worrying.

All of Fulham, Bristol, Brentford, Huddersfield, Reading and Blackburn should be worried about their form. Of the six, only Bristol City picked up a win last time out and between the six of them they only have two wins between them in each their last two games; that's two wins in 12 games.

While Charlton, Rotherham and MK Dons are picking up wins and draws, the likes of Blackburn are faltering and they must start worrying about the teams behind them rather than looking ahead.

3) Ipswich are looking strong after a dip in form

February saw Ipswich lose three of their four games but it looks as if the Blues are getting back to form at an important time as teams around them are picking up points.

Against Rotherham on Saturday they must win to show that they have what it takes to keep up the promotion push and if they manage to hop the potential banana-skin fixture, then they will put pressure on the teams ahead.

Only Middlesbrough picked up a loss out of the top 14 teams and it just goes to show that McCarthy's side will have to put 110% in for every game if they are to make it into the top six.
