Goals from debutants Elias Kachunga and Kasey Palmer gave David Wagner three point from the first game of the new season.

Seven summer signings were in Wagner's starting XI with another two coming off the bench later on in the game while Brentford had four in their whole squad.

The Terriers were very much the better of the two sides over 90 minutes but the deadlock wasn't broken until the 50th minute when Kachunga, a loan signing from German side FC Ingolstadt 04.

Brentford found an equaliser in the 77th minute against the run of play with his third goal for the Bees with a cooly tucked away finish.

However it didn't last long as another loanee Kasey Palmer, who joined from Chelsea, picked up a loose ball in the box and rounded Bees keeper Dan Bentley to score the winner.

Here are THREE things we learned from the game...

Huddersfield looking like value for money

Some were worried about Huddersfield's chances of staying in the Championship before the season kicked off but if they continue to perform as they did on Saturday, they'll be no where near the bottom three.

Their play attacking-minded while also using the impressive pressing that is so often associated with Wagner's friend Jurgen Klopp.

If the Terriers continue to show the quality that they did at the John Smith's Stadium, then Wagner will quickly escape the shadow of the Liverpool boss and Huddersfield will benefit from that.

Brentford in need of new recruits

While Dean Smith has done some impressive business already this summer, the former Walsall boss will undoubtedly be looking to bring in some much-needed recruits.

The manager admitted after the game that his squad was lacking wide players with his starting XI at Huddersfield containing midfielders that were predominantly central players.

If Brentford are going to better last season's top 10 finish then Dean Smith is going to need some more back in the transfer market.

Jack Payne looks a good prospect

One transfer that went slightly under the radar in the Championship this season was that of Jack Payne swapping Southend for Hudersfield after his contract expired with the Shrimpers.

On Saturday, Payne was impressive and constantly a thorn in the side of the Brentford defence as bobbed and weaved searching for an opening.

He was substituted late in the game for goal scorer Palmer but it would be very harsh to drop the 21-year-old after a hugely impressive debut for the midfielder.
