The lunchtime game on Saturday saw Derby travel to Molineux to face Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The home side went into the game without a win in seven matches, but Kenny Jackett's men were boosted by George Saville's opener after 14 minutes, smartly tucking it past goalkeeper Scott Carson.

Chris Martin scored a wonderful free-kick for the Rams just before half-time, but it turned out to be in vain as a magnificent header from Saville found the underside of the bar late on.

Wolves will be pleased to end their terrible run, moving up to 13th place, and just outside of the top half on goal difference. They now look to push on and gain as many places as they can, their next opponents being Middlesbrough on Friday night.

Derby, however, find themselves on the losing side once more - they have gained three points just twice in their last 11 matches.

That form is definitely not befitting of a side that are targeting promotion next season, and Darren Wassell needs to breathe some life back into his side.

Here are THREE things we learned from Saturday's match......

1) George Saville's first goals

After Wolves recalled the young man from his loan at Millwall back in January, Saville could have been thinking that would be that when it comes to his first team chances in the 2015-16 season.

However, he has played seven times since his recall. Having not scored for Kenny Jackett's men before Saturday, his two goals helped his side to a crucial first win in a while.

Whilst Wolves may not have much to play for this season, Saville will look to enhance his career for the remainder of the term.

He hasn't played all too many games, his only full season coming in 2013-14, where he played 40 times for Brentford as they finished second in League One, behind his current club Wolves.

2) How important is Chris Martin to this Derby side?

When Martin isn't in great form, it can be infuriating to watch him play. But that can be said about many a great striker.

His latest performance, including a stunning free-kick goal, showcased just how important he is to this side.

He has 11 goals and six assists this season, making him their joint top scorer this season.

Lately, he has two goals and three assists in his last eight games, and that's in an under-performing team.

If he was to hit top form, then it is well within his capabilities to propel Derby back to the automatic promotion race.

Can Martin continue to be a crucial part of this Derby team?

3) Derby need to take advantage of their upcoming favourable fixture list.

Derby's next five fixtures consist of a home tie against Huddersfield, trips to QPR and Rotherham, a home tie against rivals Nottingham Forest before an away day at Cardiff. This means that before their massive match against Hull on 5th April, they don't face a side currently above them in the league.

And it seems as if this run of favourable fixtures has come at the wrong time for the Rams. Their poor performances have to end soon if they have any hope of rekindling their title challenge.
