Burnley made it two wins over local rivals in a week courtesy of a 1-0 win over Blackburn Rovers at Turf Moor yesterday.

Paul Lambert's Blackburn lost out to Burnley in the East Lancashire derby

Andre Gray once again was the match winner for the Clarets, knocking in a 16th minute penalty to put Sean Dyche and his team back on top of the Championship following Middlesbrough's win on Friday night.

It was a typical derby game and Blackburn gave it everything towards the end of the game to try and rescue some local pride, and had a strong penalty shout turned down with the final pass of the game.

It was not to be for Paul Lambert and his team though, and a bottom half finish looks almost certain for them as we approach the end of the season.

FootballLeagueWorld writer Lee Connor identifies THREE things that we learned from yesterday's game in East Lancashire...

1) Andre Gray is worth every penny

It was down to the big money summer signing once again to handle the pressure and take responsibility, and do that he did.

He calmly slotted in the 16th minute penalty to give his team the lead and was once again a threat throughout. It made it three goals in two games for Gray, and he has essentially given his team a crucial six points on his own in the last week.

Gray has now bagged 21 for the season, and is well on course to hit 30 if he carries on how he is going.

Manager Dyche will be delighted to see Gray finding form towards the crunch period of the season, and Burnley may well go on to clinch promotion with him in this form.

2) Blackburn will be OK with Lambert

It could be said Blackburn were unlucky not to get something from the game when you look at the stats, but one thing we can be pretty certain of is that under Lambert, they will improve next season.

Lambert has got them looking organised and made some good signings in the January transfer window. Another successful window in the summer may see them emerge as play-off contenders next season, and fans at Ewood Park will be encouraged by yesterday's display.

But for Tom Heaton and a superb save during the game, we could well be talking about a completely different result.

3) Hoodoo broken for the Clarets

It was a first win for Burnley against Blackburn at Turf Moor in 38 years, and Burnley fans were clearly delighted at the final whistle as years of frustration poured out.

It was a joy to see the fans so happy, and could prove to be a real pivotal moment in the season for the Clarets, as fans may finally begin to believe that they can snatch the title.

Burnley are looking well on course to at least be right in the mix come the end of the season, and yesterday could well prove to be the most important result of the season.
