Bristol City pulled off a shock win over Championship leaders Middlesbrough at Ashton Gate on Saturday, with a tremendous 1-0 victory to give them hope of beating the drop.

Bristol City left it until injury time to grab a crucial winner in this tense Championship match between these teams.

Wes Burns headed home deep into stoppage time to give manager-less Bristol City all three points, and aid their bid for survival.

Middlesbrough were below par in this match but is does not take away from the Robins’ victory, who’s overall play was good and they deserved the points.

Middlesbrough are still two points clear at the top of the Championship with a game in hand over Hull City.

Bristol City remain in the bottom three behind Rotherham, but only on goal difference, and only two points behind MK Dons.

Here are THREE things we learned from Bristol City’s surprise 1-0 win over Middlesbrough……

1) Bristol City have enough quality to stay up.

They secured all three points against a very good Middlesbrough team, and could of scored before they finally managed to grab the winner.

At times the football from City was very good and you could not have told which side was at the top of the table, and who was at the bottom.

If they play with this much determination each week, they will get themselves out of trouble.

2) Middlesbrough defeat just a blip

The defeat against Bristol City was just a blip they have too much quality for it to be anything else, Bristol City played well and deserved the points but you could see Middlesbrough’s quality.

It just didn’t click on the day, all teams have these dips but I don’t expect Aitor Karanka to allow it to be a long term blip at league leaders Middlesbrough.

The table toppers have not dropped many points on the road, and at this time of year always throws up the odd unexpected result.

3) Bristol City have to appoint a new boss soon

Yes they had a fantastic win over the division leaders, but they are in need of a long term successor sooner rather than later.

John Pemberton is a good coach but City will be looking for someone outside the club to bring in as the new boss, but if they wish to make good acquisitions, they will need to make a move on in the window.

Bristol City can get out of trouble, but it will be a close run thing this season.
