The Championship season rolled back around on Friday and one game that really got tongues wagging on Saturday was Bristol City's 2-1 win over Wigan Athletic.

In the first league game at the newly developed Ashton Gate, Bristol City overcame a first-half setback to turn the game around in the last ten minutes, scoring right at the death to give manager Lee Johnson his first Championship win of the season.

Summer signing Alex Gilbey gave the Latics the lead in the 32nd minute after he connected with a Yanic Wildschut cross from the left wing.

The lead lasted until the 81st minute when Chelsea loanee Tammy Abraham equalised for the Robins as he headed home a Gary O'Neil corner to draw things level.

Things got even better for Lee Johnson when a shot from captain O'Neil was deflected into the Wigan net by team mate Bobby Reid in the final few minutes of the match to give his side all three points.

But what should we take from the game itself going forward? FootballLeagueWorld writer Hayden Atkins looks at THREE things we learned from the game...

1) Tammy Abraham looked good for The Robins

Having scored 74 goals in 98 youth games for Chelsea at various levels, Abraham got on the scoresheet for Bristol with his first goal in senior football.

But in truth, he looked like he'd been playing football at this level for a number of years and settled into the game extremely well after coming on as a substitute with on 23 minutes to play.

A real promising sign for Bristol City.

2) Wigan still need a couple of fresh faces still

Although they weren't terribly poor, Wigan still look in need of a couple of fresh faces for the season ahead.

They look a little light in areas and didn't seem to have the same fire-power as their opponents from the bench. A couple more names who have plenty of Championship experience wouldn't go amiss for Gary Caldwell's side.

A decent start but more to come from Wigan.

3) Bristol City have some real quality upfront

Jonathan Kodjia

Tammy Abraham came on for his Bristol debut and did well but as usual, Jonathan Kodjia looked extremely lively going forward for the Robins too.

He's a real handful - a powerful striker with bags of pace and he can cause plenty of Championship sides trouble this season.

A partnership between him and the Chelsea youngster doesn't look that far away and if Lee Johnson can continue to get the best out his players, it could be an extremely promising season indeed.
