Brentford continued their pursuit of the play-offs with an emphatic 4-2 victory over a Huddersfield Town side struggling to pick up results under David Wagner.

Sergi Canos, on loan from Liverpool, gave Brentford fans something to cheer about when he put his side 1-0 up within 5 minutes, after an intricate pass-and-move attack.

In the 21st minute, Lasse Vibe was sent through on goal by defender James Tarkowski, and the Dane cannoned home a rocket of a shot to make it 2-0.

Brentford's player of the season so far Alan Judge put the game beyond doubt with free kick that missed everyone in the box, including the Huddersfield keeper, to make it three.

Joe Lolley bagged a consolation goal after the break, but Brentford put the match beyond doubt from the spot, with Alan Judge bagging his second of the game with a penalty in the 55th minute.

Kyle Dempsey volleyed home a rebound for the sixth of the game in injury time, but celebrations were muted, and Town were well beaten.

Here are THREE things we learned from this game:

1) Huddersfield need to improve defensively

Huddersfield's defending was massively questionable in this game and they looked unorganised, scrappy and lacked any real quality in their own third.

David Wagner will need to focus on defensive organisation in training in the coming weeks, and will undoubtedly have had strong words with his back line.

While Wagner's time in charge of the Terriers will be a marathon and not a sprint, his side have to improve fast if they want to escape relegation.

2) Alan Judge is the class of this side

Judge has 10 goals in the Championship this season from midfield, which sees him tied with the likes of Charlie Austin and Nick Blackman in second place in the top scorer charts.

Every time the ball comes to him, the Brentford fans feel something special is on the cards and he will undoubtedly be a wanted man in January.

His form this season saw him called up to the Republic of Ireland first team, and he will be determined to break into Martin O'Neil's side in the future.

3) There is promise in Huddersfield's side

Whatever David Wagner said to his players at half time clearly had an effect of some sort, and when they came out after the break, they looked hungrier, and had more cutting edge to their play.

If they had started out this way then maybe the scoreline would have been different. Nakhi Wells showed pace and determination when he came on, and will be likely to have earned a start in Town's next game.

While Wagner is still assessing his squad, Wells seems like the best choice to start up front given the lack of goals from his other strikers.
