A 90th minute winner from Phillip Hofmann gave 10-man Brentford a dramatic 2-1 win over Nottingham Forest at Griffin Park yesterday.

Lee Carsley Brentford picked up a fifth win in seven matches against Nottingham Forest yesterday

The victory for the Bees got them back to winning ways, whilst 18th place Forest failed to build on their victory over arch-rivals Derby County.

The pressure is now mounting on manager Dougie Freedman as his side failed to convert opportunities which they created in abundance in the first half. They were very wasteful in a dominant first half display with Nelson Oliveira and Jamie Ward both denied by Brentford keeper David Button.

Brentford though were the better team in the second half as they looked to punish Forest for their wasteful finishing and after Dorus De Vries failed to hang on to a John Swift shot, Brentford forward Sergi Canos finished the chance off to give Brentford the lead.

But then the game took a turn when Brentford defender Harlee Dean was sent off and just three minutes later Forest midfielder Henri Lansbury equalised for Forest.

But strangely enough in the closing moments, it was 10-man Brentford who piled on the pressure with James Tarkowski hitting the woodwork late on and then, in the 95th minute, Hofmann kept his composure to snatch the points.

FootballLeagueWorld writer Michael Hasan identifies three things that we learned from yesterday's game...

1) Forest are missing Britt Assombalonga and the recently-departed Michail Antonio

Forest are missing last season's key men and have been incredibly wasteful in recent weeks.

Their midfield are creating plenty like they did yesterday, but they have no clinical striker up top to finish the chances off.

Assombalonga was their key man last season and their best striker by a mile, and they have really missed him this season like they did last season.

Also when he was injured, Antonio bailed them out with some excellent midfield displays and scoring loads of goals, but they lost him in the summer to West Ham United.

These players have not been replaced and they are, as a result, struggling to score.

2) Brentford becoming clinical despite change in tactics

Last season under Mark Warburton, Brentford created a host of chances with their fast-flowing attacking football led by Jota, Alex Pritchard and Andre Gray.

They no longer possess this threat but under Carsley they have found a effective way of playing with Alan Judge as the star man, and they are taking their chances effectively.

Hofmann is a very different player to Gray but he seems to be doing the job with the service around him.

3) The end is nigh for Freedman

Freedman's Forest have failed to build on some positive displays, like their win over Derby last time out.

They have a lot of defensive frailty and fall apart easily.

Fans are right to be frustrated at how you can lose to a team with 10 men and show no real intent after equalising.

He failed to replace the key players they lost and he leaves them now in 18th, and it is hard to imagine him surviving there much longer.
