Brentford and Leeds United played out a tightly contested score draw at Griffin Park in last night's Championship match.

Leeds travelled to Brentford to measure themselves against a team, that will be contesting for promotion at the end of the season.

Brentford were the more dangerous of the two sides and were the team that broke the deadlock, with a great strike from Sam Saunders just before the half hour mark.

The second half carried on the same way as the first, Brentford tried to press for a second, but Leeds survived and started to grow into the game and six minutes from time, Carayol levelled with a superb 18-yard shot.

Both sides had chances to take all three points but neither side had the composure to seal the game, and the match finished 1-1 with the Bees fans rueing the missed chances from the first half.

Here are THREE things we learned from last night's draw between Brentford and Leeds United.......

1). Josh McEachran deserves more recognition

The Brentford midfielder ran the show last night, and dictated the pace of the game, controlling the midfield area.

He was the standout player on the pitch last night, setting players like John Swift and Alan Judge free to be their dangerous selves.

Judge has been the subject of the paper rumours but if Brentford really do have play-off ambitions, they really need to keep hold of Josh McEachran.

2) Leeds need time

Leeds United had their moments last night, but they were largely outplayed by the stylish Bees.

Steve Evans has done a very good job in difficult circumstances, and the players he has brought in and plans to bring in will need time to adjust to his style and tactics.

They will not be in danger of going down but this season the play-offs might be a step too far for the Yorkshire side, next season though they could be a force in the Championship.

3) Dean Smith

Brentford manager Dean Smith has only won three of the twelve games since taking charge at Griffin Park.

The Bees have play-off ambitions and need to find some form soon or they could find themselves out of the reckoning.

They look good, the football they play is great to watch, but all the transfer speculation surrounding different players must surely having an effect.

This month will be a stern test of Smith's managerial expertise.
