Portsmouth continued their automatic promotion push as they comfortably beat Rochdale 3-0 at Fratton Park on Friday night to move up to 3rd in the League One table.

Ryan Williams opened the scoring on the stroke of half-time before defenders Steve Seddon and Christian Burgess struck in the final 12 minutes to leave Kenny Jackett's men just three points behind second-placed Rotherham United with what was their seventh home victory in succession.

Here, we take a look at three things we learned about Portsmouth during the clash…

Fortress Fratton Park
If there's one ground that you don't want to visit in the EFL at present, then it's Fratton Park.
Friday night's comfortable win was their 12th at Fratton Park this season, extending their unbeaten league run on home soil to 18 matches since a 3-2 defeat to Peterborough United last April.
Only rivals Southampton have won in SO4 this term in all competitions and they'll be hoping that record remains intact after tonight's FA Cup fifth-round tie against Arsenal.
Momentum with Kenny Jackett's men

Momentum is key at this stage of the season and Portsmouth look to have it in abundance at present.

Pompey quickly put the disappointment of their narrow defeat at fellow promotion-rivals Fleetwood Town last Saturday behind them with two comprehensive home victories this week - and by playing on Friday night, piled the pressure on those above them.

That pressure paid off after just one of the sides around them winning - meaning Jackett's sit three points adrift of Rotherham having played one game fewer than Paul Warne's side.

Steve Seddon's stunner

When you score your first Portsmouth goal, you might as well make it a memorable one.

And Steve Seddon's wonderful 78th-minute strike against Dale wasn't just his first in Pompey colours, but it ended a run of more than 10 months without finding the net for the on-loan Birmingham City defender.

Seddon took up his position just outside the Rochdale penalty box before lashing home with a sensational first-time strike that arrowed into the corner of the net to give Portsmouth breathing space.

However, Seddon wasn't finished there, rounding off a perfect afternoon by creating Pompey third for Christian Burgess.
