On Saturday, Plymouth Argyle hosted Carlisle United at Home Park as the Pilgrims were prepared to try and keep their good form in the league going after an indifferent start under new manager Ryan Lowe.

Striker Joel Grant broke the deadlock midway trough the first half when he slid in to convert a pinpoint cross from George Cooper, and Antoni Sarcevic was able to wrap up the points in second-half stoppable time when he was allowed to run to the edge of the penalty area and fire into the back of the net.

Here, we take a look at three things that we learned from Plymouth's win over Carlisle United at the weekend...

Plymouth still have defensive frailties

Despite being able to keep a clean sheet and goalkeeper Alex Palmer remaining relatively untroubled throughout the 90 minutes, Plymouth still have defensive frailties that manager Ryan Lowe will want to sort out sooner rather than later.

The back three that Plymouth were operating with that consisted of Gary Sawyer, Niall Canavan and Scott Wootton all found themselves too exposed when made to defend balls over the top and into the channels, often finding themselves in situations where they were unable to kee up with one of the visiting forwards from quick passes in behind the defence.

Zak Rudden's upped his game

Despite the Pilgrims having some sort of an injury crisis up front, Rudden has started to perform the way that he should be capable of having signed on loan from Rangers in the summer.

The striker linked up brilliantly with strike partner Joel Grant on Saturday, and when the 19 year-old Rudden dropped deep to get on the ball, he was able to get crosses into the box and linked up brilliantly with the players around him as Plymouth supporters were left to applaud the youngster's performance.

Joel Grant is more than capable of finding the net

A few weeks ago, Plymouth manager Lowe challenged his forwards to find the net and to prove to him that they can perform on a regular basis, with Grant taking the challenge head on.

Grant reacted quickest to get on the end of Cooper's perfect delivery on Saturday and poked in from the centre of the penalty spot, netting his third goal in as many games in the process. If Grant continues to perform in this rich vein of form that he's currently in, then Lowe will be delighted with the effect of his public words for his strikers.
