3 things we clearly learnt about West Brom after their 2-1 victory over QPR

Published

on

West Bromwich Albion returned to the top of the Championship standings yesterday as they secured a dramatic 2-1 victory over Queens Park Rangers at The Hawthorns.

The Baggies made an awful start to the clash as Hoops striker Andre Gray gave his side the lead in the first minute as he slotted past goalkeeper Sam Johnstone.

Following the break, Karlan Grant scored an equaliser for West Brom.

The 24-year-old then netted what turned out to be the winning goal in the closing stages of the clash as he fired a precise effort past Seny Dieng following good work from Jordan Hugill and Callum Robinson.

With the dust having now settled from this particular clash, here are THREE things we learnt about West Brom after their victory over the Hoops…

Callum Robinson should be handed a start in the club’s upcoming clash with Cardiff

Introduced as a substitute in the second-half of last night’s clash, Robinson delivered a fantastic cameo performance against QPR.

As well as providing two assists for his team-mates, the 26-year-old managed to record an impressive WhoScored match rating of 7.21 in this fixture.

With West Brom set to face Cardiff City on Tuesday, Robinson should be given the chance to impress in this clash as he clearly possesses the talent needed to thrive at this level.

West Brom need to improve defensively if they are to launch a promotion push

Whilst West Brom showed a great deal of character to secure all three points in yesterday’s clash, it could be argued that they will need to cut out their defensive errors if they are to launch a promotion push this season.

Have West Brom won the Championship title during their history?

A lapse in judgement during the opening stages of their showdown with QPR allowed Gray to open the scoring for the Hoops who were unable to build upon this particular strike.

Providing that West Brom are able to pick up clean-sheets in the Championship on a regular basis in the coming months, there is no reason why they cannot go on to achieve a great deal of success at this level.

Valerien Ismael should stick by his style of play

Whilst West Brom have struggled in recent weeks to break down their opponents, Valerien Ismael has opted to stick by his style of play which relies heavily on pressing teams in the final-third.

The Frenchman opted to stick by his game-plan on Friday despite murmurs of discontent from a section of supporters at The Hawthorns.

This particular decision turned out to be the correct call as West Brom eventually forced QPR into making mistakes in the second-half which allowed the hosts to secure another home win.
