West Bromwich Albion returned to winning ways at the Hawthorns on Tuesday night, after defeating top-six contenders Preston North End by two goals to nil in the West Midlands.

The Baggies would have been looking to pick up from where they left off and keep their foot on the gas, after recording a convincing 3-0 victory over Bristol City at Ashton Gate on Saturday.

It didn't take long for Slaven Bilic's side to break the deadlock on Tuesday night, either, with Hal Robson-Kanu slotting underneath Declan Rudd after only six minutes.

It was Callum Robinson, against his former side, who orchestrated the goal, driving forward down the left with speed, before playing a delightful lofted pass into the path of Robson-Kanu, who made no mistake inside the area.

The Albion duo combined again to double their lead right before half-time. This time, Robson-Kanu turned provider, chesting another lofted pass from Robinson into the path of Livermore, who found the net with a left-footed half-volley.

In the end, Albion ran out comfortable 2-0 winners against a lacklustre Preston side, whose night went from bad to worse on hour mark when Darnell Fisher was shown a straight red card for a challenge on Robinson.

Bilic's men had plenty of chances to put the game firmly out of North End's reach towards the end, but they faced very little threat and moved 10 points clear of third with a big win on home turf - only their second in their last seven games.

Here's what we learnt about the Baggies after their 2-0 victory over Preston...

Hal Robson-Kanu deserves his place in the team

Robson-Kanu is a player who has divided opinions amongst the West Brom faithful this term, and for the large part, he has been rather hit-and-miss under Bilic.

But the 30-year-old thoroughly deserves his place in the side ahead of two proven strikers in Kenneth Zohore and Charlie Austin - the latter featuring for only the final 10 minutes, having fallen behind Robson-Kanu in the pecking order.

The Wales international was superb for Albion last night, expertly finishing under Rudd despite being sandwiched between two defenders in Ben Davies and Andrew Hughes, before providing an assist for Livermore's strike.

After grabbing a brace at the weekend, too, he is now on 10 goals for the season in all competitions, and is definitely starting to prove just why Bilic puts so much faith in him leading the line for West Brom.

Rekeem Harper is ready

Bilic made only one change to the side that beat Bristol City - an enforced one at that, with the suspended Romaine Sawyers being replaced by Rekeem Harper.

You could perhaps forgive Harper for looking a little rusty having made only four league appearances - all from the bench - before Tuesday night, but that wasn't to be the case at all.

The 19-year-old produced a superb performance alongside Jake Livermore in a deeper midfield role, keeping the ball ticking and picking out some smart passes.

He kept it nice and simple, winning his own individual battles and failing to look out of place in the Albion side, and you could tell that the experience of Livermore really helped him throughout the night.

He has given himself a real platform to kick on, now.

Grady Diangana will find it hard to get back into the team

Diangana has been missing since the 20th of January, where he came off injured against Stoke City with only four minutes on the clock.

The West Ham United loanee had been arguably West Brom's best and most important player of the season up until that point, but in all honesty, the Baggies have just got better and better in his absence.

Filip Krovinovic has come in and done enough to keep his shirt, whilst the addition of Callum Robinson has proved to be an excellent one, as he looked a class act against his former side in midweek.

Even the likes of Matty Phillips and Kamil Grosicki are having to fight for their place in the team. Both came off the bench in midweek, with the latter looking incredibly lively and sharp when coming on.

Diangana will have to work his socks off if he is to win his place back in this team, as performances like Tuesday night's proves.
