Swansea City have ensured they will enter the international break top of the Championship table after an impressive 1-0 victory over Leeds United at Elland Road.

Substitute Wayne Routledge scored a 90th-minute winner to maintain Steve Cooper's side unbeaten record, which has now seen them win five of their first six league matches.

The Swans rode their luck at times with Leeds squandering a number of earlier opportunities to take the lead, but the likes of Eddie Nketiah, Pablo Hernandez and Liam Cooper failed to convert their chances.

This all meant that Swansea secured a statement victory in West Yorkshire, which will send a message to the rest of the Championship regarding their promotion intent this campaign.

Here are three things we learned about the Swans following Saturday's result...

Swansea have improved their resilience this season

Cooper has built on the solid work performed by Graham Potter last season in restoring Swansea's attractive style of play, but they already seem to be a more stubborn side this term.

This was Swansea's fourth clean sheet in all competitions this season, and it was well earned after a hard-fought defensive display where the Swans refused to back down.

The back four of Jake Bidwell, Joe Rodon, Mike van der Hoorn and Connor Roberts all put in immense displays, which was essential in ensuring Cooper's streetwise side claimed a famous win.

Jay Fulton performs an essential job in midfield

Fulton has established himself as a key feature alongside Matt Grimes in Swansea's midfield, and he very much proved his worth to the side with an assured performance at Elland Road.

It would not have been an easy task to play defensive midfield against a strong Leeds side, but Fulton worked hard to retain the ball and cut out plenty of Leeds' advances forward.

The Scottish midfielder's readiness to perform the unglamorous work deep in midfield allowed the likes of Matt Grimes, Yan Dhanda and Bersant Celina to flourish further forward.

Steve Cooper's astute tactics could help Swansea go far this season

The former England Under-17 side had already displayed his impressive tactical awareness through Swansea's performances so far this season, which has seen them both create chances and limit that of their opponents.

These tactics became even more telling following the 1-0 success at Elland Road, with Cooper admitting after the game that Leeds are a side with 'obvious areas' to exploit.

Cooper pinpointed Leeds' deep midfield zone as an area where Swansea tried to hit them on the counter-attack, while he also referred to Marcelo Bielsa's man-marking system in midfield.

There are not likely to be many sides who pick up three points at Elland Road this season, and Cooper's tactics were instrumental in ensuring Swansea were the first side to beat the Whites this term.
