Swansea City endured a frustrating afternoon yesterday as they lost 1-0 at home to Aston Villa, which saw Wilfried Bony miss a last minute penalty.

Graham Potter's side dominated the ball from start to finish at the Liberty Stadium and even though they struggled to create regular, clear openings, they will feel they were the better side.

However, a powerful header from Conor Hourihane gave the visitors the lead and despite late pressure, the Swans couldn't get that late equaliser.

Bony had the opportunity the side were hoping for but his spot-kick was well-saved by Orjan Nyland who was the hero for Dean Smith's side.

That is back-to-back defeats for Potter's men and they are now seven points away from the top six.

And, here we look at THREE things we learnt from the defeat about the Welsh side...

That was Swansea's fifth home loss of the season and to put that into context, only Bolton and Reading have more defeats on their own patch this season.

Clearly, that's not good enough and Potter will have to think about why this is happening.

As mentioned, the hosts had much more of the ball and controlled large parts of the clash against Villa.

That's no mean feat against a side that boasts several quality, technical players.

Yet, it still wasn't enough, with Swansea not ruthless enough at on end of the pitch and they conceded a soft goal at the other.

Following on from that, this game should be enough to convince that new signings are required in the upcoming window.

The Swans have a big gap to make up on the top six but they have to believe it's possible but they need quality to help the current group.
