Sunderland's season hit a new low after being held to a 1-1 draw by Blackpool on Saturday.

While that point moved them one closer to the play-off positions, it also saw the Black Cats drop to 12th in the League One table.

It was another performance that left much to be desired for the deflated Sunderland supporters who are growing increasingly frustrated by what is shaping up to be another season of woe.

The Wearsiders may be nine points off the top two, but the display put in against the Seasiders has left much to be desired.

Here's what we learnt at the Stadium Of Light.

The impact of Charlie Wyke

On a poor afternoon it's only right that we start with a high.

Charlie Wyke has been badly missed in recent weeks but after making his long-awaited return against Gillingham last week, expectations were high for the striker.

Wyke didn't disappoint against Blackpool though, as his first half effort set the Black Cats on their way.

The striker is not fully fit yet but if he can continue to impress then he could be a key player to help the Black Cats in the coming weeks.

Phil Parkinson is feeling the heat

The pressure has been building on the Sunderland boss in recent weeks.

Results aren't improving and with the Black Cats drifting down the table, some have called into question his long-term future at the club.

Parkinson refused to speak to the press after the 1-1 draw - another sign that the former Bolton boss is feeling the heat.

12 days to save their season

Sunderland's draw with Blackpool will hopefully start a spell which could save their season.

The Black Cats aren't in action until Boxing Day, meaning that Phil Parkinson has some much-needed time to get some players fit and get to work on the training ground.

Bolton are up next for the Wearsiders, and Parkinson will be praying that having a short break can see them regain their focus ahead of a pivotal run of games.
