Sheffield Wednesday fans must be pinching themselves right now after their season has taken an extraordinary turn for the best.

They were on a collision course with relegation under former boss Jos Luhukay, but a remarkable turnaround under new management has seen them climb to within six points of the top six.

A play-off spot has to be unlikely, but they're currently above new manager Steve Bruce's former side Aston Villa.

They've managed this without making significant summer signings and without time to mould and develop the current squad.

It certainly bodes well for the future at Hillsborough after a horrible season or so.

Luhukay never grasped the culture of the club and his tactics often left much to be desired.

Meanwhile Bruce, a man who couldn't get a talented Villa side firing, seems to have instilled a belief and energy into the same players Luhukay couldn't improve.

Their win at Brentford was the second in a row and it taught us plenty about the squad and it's direction.

Steven Fletcher scored a brace to give him three from his last two outings.

The Scot has been written off time and again, but when it matters most he seems to pop up with the goods.

Many have tipped him for a summer exit, but on current form he's likely to be around next season.

It might seem ridiculous, but nobody in line for that sixth place seems to want it badly enough to go and get it.

Bristol City lost last night, meaning they're the latest side to struggle to press home the advantage they had. Derby have fallen away, Forest are adrift and Birmingham look like true contenders.

Another brace of wins and you can add the Owls to that list.

They couldn't defend for their lives at the beginning of the season, but bringing Kieren Westwood back in and restoring some of the senior professionals to the side has seen that change dramatically.

They kept a vibrant and exciting Brentford quiet last night, the same side who bagged five at the weekend. Impressive.
