Sheffield United dropped out of the automatic promotion places at the weekend as they suffered a shock 3-2 defeat to play-off chasing Bristol City.

The Blades had taken the lead through Billy Sharp early into the game, but Andreas Weimann equalised before half-time to see the sides head into the break level.

Scott Hogan restored Sheffield United's lead with just 20 minutes remaining, but Weimann responded yet again, as he netted twice late on to see Lee Johnson's side take all three points.

With Leeds win over Millwall on the same day, it means that Chris Wilder's side are now two points adrift of the automatic promotion places.

There are just seven league games remaining, so the Blades can't afford to make anymore slip up's as that will all but guarantee Leeds their automatic promotion spot.

But what have we learnt about Chris Wilder's side after this shock defeat?

Find out below....

Marvin Johnson shouldn't be anywhere near the starting XI

It's fair to say that Johnson hasn't had the best of seasons for Sheffield United.

He was a late substitute for the Blades in the defeat, but hardly covered himself in glory, as they threw away their lead against the Robins.

Sheffield United have better options available to them and Johnson shouldn't be anywhere near the starting XI.

They can't afford to be complacent

With the good run of form that Sheffield United were on heading into this game, there will have been an expectancy on the Blades to sweep Bristol City aside with ease.

But they can't afford to let complacency creep in at this stage of the season, otherwise it will cost them promotion back into the top-flight.

Hogan will be keen to add to his tally after first goal

Scott Hogan has struggled to make a notable impact for the Blades since signing on loan from Aston Villa, but he netted his first goal for Chris Wilder's side in the defeat.

This could be the 'confidence booster' that the striker needs to find his shooting boots again, and he's already shown that he can score goals at this level.

If he can build on this, then he could play a crucial role in the promotion race, and will be keen to help fire the Blades back into the automatic promotion places.
