Sheffield United brushed off recent criticism of them yesterday, with Chris Wilder’s side recording a statement victory against Derby County at Bramall Lane.

Recent defeats to the likes of Leeds United and West Bromwich Albion had cast doubt of the Blades’ promotion credentials, but the South Yorkshire outfit were close to their best for Derby’s visit.

Billy Sharp expectedly was the man to head Wilder’s men in front, although Bramall Lane was left frustrated when a Harry Wilson special drew Derby level on Boxing Day.

From there, though, David McGoldrick expertly lobbed Scott Carson, before Leon Clarke rounded of the scoring for 3-1.

It was a nod to the rest of the top-six that the Blades mean business and now, Wilder will be hoping his side can put a decent run of form together heading into 2019.

Here at FLW, we take a look at THREE things we learnt about the Blades on Boxing Day…

There’s no denying that Sharp is Wilder’s talisman.

He scores such important goals and Boxing Day was no different, his header was perfect and gave Carson very little chance.

If the Blades are to maintain there position in the play-offs, Sharp’s goals will continue to be key.

There were many questioning whether this side were good enough after home defeats to Leeds and West Brom, but this was a statement.

Wilder’s men showed that they can cut it with their rivals when the pressure is on.

They’re serious contenders, whatever anyone has said in recent weeks.

There’s a reliance on Sharp, which is fine, but he needs support from McGoldrick and Clarke.

The pair provided that on Boxing Day, which is something that the former has been doing for some time now.

In the coming weeks, the pair will ease the burden on Sharp.
