Queens Park Rangers missed out on the chance to climb into third place when they were held to a goalless draw by Swansea City on Tuesday evening.

Rangers, who have been very strong at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium this season, created the best chances of the game with both Charlie Austin and Lyndon Dykes spurning clear shooting opportunities.

The Swans were always going to be tough to break down and they take a valuable point away from West London to build on as they look to push towards the top half of the table.

Mark Warburton will be looking for a couple of shrewd additions in the remaining five days of the transfer window to give them a bit more impetus in the final third.

Here, we have taken a look at three things we clearly learnt about QPR after their 0-0 draw v Swansea...

They will always create

With Ilias Chair at the Africa Cup of Nations there were serious concerns over whether Rangers would be the same team.

They have coped very well so far, and even though they did not pepper the visitors' goal as much as they have done in the past, Dykes and Austin know that they had great opportunities to edge their noses in front.

They were naturally more reliant on Chris Willock, but the 23-year-old delivered and was unlucky not to provide an assist with a delicious cross for Austin in the first half.

Marshall a very smart move

David Marshall had not made a single league appearance for Derby County this season with Ryan Allsop and Kelle Roos preferred to the Scotsman by Wayne Rooney.

With Jordan Archer picking up an injury while Seny Dieng is away at AFCON with Senegal, Rangers had to act and bringing in Marshall was a very clever piece of business.

The 36-year-old is still easily a second tier level keeper and his reflexes were impressive on Tuesday evening, denying Joel Piroe low to his left in the second half along with a double save later on, Dieng will have greater competition for places to return to in the coming weeks.

Attacking additions needed

It felt as though Warburton had his hands tied behind his back a touch in terms of his options off of the bench.

Andre Gray was unavailable despite scoring in Rangers' victory over Coventry City at the weekend, which meant that Dykes was the only attacking threat that could be brought on to impact the game.

This situation will likely be addressed in the next few days with QPR hoping to sign some difference-makers in their promotion push.
